South Mountain Veggies, "sprouted out" of the comments of our friends and family, "watered" by the love of healthy eating, and "grown" by the passion of supporting local agriculture.

We live on a farm, in Frederick County, Maryland.  We managed and built South Mountain Creamery over the past 8 years, during that time, we had several conversations with customers, regarding home delivery of local fruits and veggies and the lack of time and ability to shop for them.

In 2009, we decided to take the first step toward this goal.  The idea started small, we envisioned that I would deliver the produce in the back of my pick-up truck, on the weekends, as a way to provide a service, and as a way to teach our kids about hard work. 

We underestimated the demand... big time.  Before we made our first delivery, we realized that we had to think bigger.  So after talking to some of the local farmers, and putting together a website, South Mountain Veggies was launched.  

The problem has always been the same.... farmers want to take their goods to market, yet don't always have the time. 

The consumers want to buy local, but don't always have the time either to search and find a good source. 

The solution: Since we know the farmers, and know personally how to do home delivery in our area, it just made good sense for us to put the two together. 

We believe that the consumer wants to buy local.  We believe that local foods taste better, are fresher, and are better for you.  We believe that the farmer and the consumer should try to create a bond based on trust, integrity and truth so that the positive co-dependency of the relationship can be sustained for the long term.  In short, farmers need consumers and consumers need farmers.  The better the relationship between us, the better the food that goes into our bodies can be, and the more likely we are to create better, longer lives for each other.
